ANNUAL MEETING FAQ

What is the Fast Company Impact Council?

The Fast Company Impact Council is an invitation-only leadership group formed in 2019 to bring together purpose-driven leaders from different industries and disciplines. Throughout the year, members convene for a mix of optional on-the-record and “Chatham House Rules” virtual gatherings that help inform Fast Company’s editorial coverage on innovation, social impact, leadership, technology, creativity, and design in business.

What is the purpose of the annual meeting?

Members will have the chance to meet each other in person, hear from experts, and share their insights about the challenges and opportunities they see in business in 2024 and beyond.

What is the theme of the annual meeting?
In just 18 short months, AI has completely upended the business world, providing opportunity as well as risk across organizations of all shapes and sizes. AI holds the potential to massively increase companies’ creative output, enhance worker productivity, perform menial tasks that few humans wanted to do in the first place, and yes, eliminate some jobs in the process. These are important topics—and at this point, most of us are deeply familiar with all of them.

One aspect of the conversation that needs more attention is the intersection of AI and social impact. How can this transformative wave of technology help (and potentially hurt) mission-driven companies achieve their goals beyond the bottom line? How can it be used to build a diverse workforce and an equitable workplace? To measure and predict the future carbon footprint of new and existing business lines? To enhance productivity in a way that makes work not just more efficient but safer? To make sure the data sets and models companies are using to build AI tools are consistent with their stated values?

At this year’s Impact Council annual meeting, we’ll bring together a collection of experts from within the Impact Council and beyond to come at these questions from a wide variety of angles—with a consistent focus on practical solutions.
