Our nation’s mental health crisis is a remarkably complex challenge. The 20% of the US population that will face a mental health issue in their lifetime represents all ages, geographies and socioeconomic strata. There is no easy fix to help such a diverse group ─ and any credible improvements must consider policy, design, community investment, socioeconomics and countless other factors.
Complex challenges like mental health and wellness can’t be solved with conventional problem-solving methods – they require a living-centered approach that can address the interconnectedness of life and its impact on people. This session will unite Kaiser Permanente and CannonDesign to define such an approach and engage attendees to develop new ideas that bridge systems thinking, empathy and design innovation. Participants should expect to take part in thought-provoking and inspiring design exercises as they learn about emerging mental health solutions and develop actionable ideas for the future.
