Applying AI for Good
Led by CHRIS ALDEN, Group director, Work & Co.
While AI to date has commonly been tapped to create customer service tools, there’s also an opportunity to use it to help people in novel ways. Planned Parenthood’s Roo is a mobile-first tool that enables teens to ask questions, anonymously, in a way that feels safer and more reliable to them than asking a parent or a teacher. The AI chatbot serves as a bridge to the informed advice offered by medical professionals in Planned Parenthood centers — distributed for free 24/7, and through machine learning, it’s scaling into an ever-expanding resource library. Named one a Fast Company Innovation by Design winner, Best Use of Machine Learning by the Webby Awards, and one of the Best Inventions of 2019 by Time.
